Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada has been handed a record 13-match suspension by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The severe ban comes after Andrada punched Huesca captain Jorge Pulido during a heated Segunda División derby, marking the longest suspension in Spanish professional football since 1990.

The RFEF confirmed the unprecedented punishment, comprising 12 games for violent conduct under Article 52 of the Disciplinary Code, plus an additional match for the red card received. Fines were also imposed on both the player and the club, underscoring the federation's strict stance against on-field violence.

The chaotic incident unfolded during stoppage time of the tense Aragonese derby. After being shown a second yellow card, Andrada sprinted across the pitch to confront and punch Pulido, immediately triggering a mass brawl. Other players involved also received bans: Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jiménez for four games and Zaragoza's Dani Tasende for two games.

This lengthy suspension represents a significant setback for Real Zaragoza, who are currently embroiled in a fierce relegation battle in the Segunda División. The club, which recently suffered a 1-0 loss to Huesca, will now lose its first-choice goalkeeper for the remainder of the season. Andrada, on loan from Monterrey, is unlikely to feature for the club again.

Esteban Andrada publicly expressed his regret, stating he 'massively regret[ted] what happened' and acknowledged it was 'not a good image' for himself or the club. He accepted responsibility for losing focus in a high-tension moment. Real Zaragoza issued its own statement, strongly condemning the incident and confirming internal disciplinary action would follow.
