Real Zaragoza was embroiled in a shocking incident during the Aragonese derby against Huesca, when their goalkeeper, Esteban Andrada, was sent off and subsequently assaulted an opposition player, sparking a massive brawl on the pitch. This event has generated significant controversy in Spain's second division.
Andrada, channeling a boxing punch, delivered a devastating right hook to Huesca defender Jorge Pulido after being shown a red card. The aggression ignited a huge melee in which even the opposing goalkeeper, Dani Jiménez, retaliated by punching Andrada in the back of the head.
Following the altercation, Esteban Andrada expressed his deep regret. "I'm very sorry for what happened," the goalkeeper stated. "It's not a good image for the club, for the fans, and especially not for a professional like myself, so I'm very sorry."
The Zaragoza shot-stopper explained that throughout his career, he had only received one red card, which was for a handball outside the area. He admitted it was a critical situation where he lost his focus and reacted impulsively.
Andrada emphasized his remorse and promised not to repeat such actions, aware of his role as a public figure and a professional with many years in his career. He also apologized directly to Jorge Pulido, acknowledging they are colleagues.
"Honestly, it was my own fault; I lost my focus at that moment," Andrada confessed, adding that he is "here for whatever consequences the league may give me, or if they want me to come and give explanations, I'm available for that." This episode marred an already tension-fraught game in the league.
